Argh. I wish I could be more consistent here. Sometimes I do so well. There's been a lot going on since October - I had an extraordinary amount of television auditions, which was incredibly exciting for me. Sometimes 3 or 4 in a week, and on a couple days - 3 in one day. I could definitely get used to that. And though I was on hold or as they say "pinned" for some of them, none of it came through. It used to upset me more than it does now. I take it all in stride, or at least right now I'm taking it in stride ;) It's a numbers game, I tell myself. So that's a recap of the time passed.
This week, I've been volunteering a good amount. It's one of the best things that I get to do when I have extra time on my hands. Last Saturday, I volunteered with an organization named Kids Club, where we play games and do Bible study lessons with kids in the Chelsea projects. This non profit is incredibly special to me because I started volunteering there back in 2007 and it's also how my husband and I became friends.
Earlier this week, I volunteered at Covenant House at 52nd and 9th ave. We made Christmas tree ornaments with the mom and their babies. There was also a giveaway for clothes and baby supplies.
I think the best thing that an actor can do for themselves is volunteer at an organization that you believe in and want to get involved with. It's the best way to stop thinking about yourself and your career and put the focus on other people. It brings an incredible amount of joy to give your time and energy to other people. It's life giving and life affirming. If you find yourself down in the dumps, it's one of the best ways to spend your time.
